Wanting a surface that would be in keeping with the style of their property overall while more than meeting the demands of their busy modern lifestyles, the owners of this beautiful property chose Inalco MDi to be a practical focal point of their new kitchen.
With the mid-century features of their 1950s detached house in mind, the couple set about extending their kitchen to create an open-plan, sociable space for the whole family to enjoy. With a keen cook and a kitchen designer from Roundhouse in the family, the bar was set very high, but the couple were keen to include materials that would draw the eye in what has become a generously-sized space.
A central point of the new kitchen is the island unit, a practical, multi-functional addition to the room that provides an informal seating area, storage and surface space.
Due to its aesthetic appeal and practical advantages, Inalco MDi Iseo Gris was the material of choice for this area of the room, wrapping around the island to create an eye-catching spectacle that adds warmth to the room, as well as visual interest.
The surface combines seamlessly with other materials chosen for the space, from the textured oak wood of the island itself, to the porcelain tiled flooring and painted Shaker-style furniture, to create an eclectic look that is on-trend and completely individual.
In a luxurious textured finish that emulates the feel and look of natural stone, Iseo Gris provides a practical surface for the centre of the kitchen, with its distinctive style drawing the eye and adding a great deal of character.
The surface is extremely hard-wearing – something that was an important plus-point for this project with a young family, particularly as the worktop is in almost constant use for one task or another. With all the beauty of natural materials, which is what attracted the couple to the material, Inalco MDi from CRL Stone is a beautiful, hard-wearing and versatile range of surfaces inspired by nature.
Available in 22 colours and finishes, including Iseo Gris, it is suitable for kitchen and bathroom countertops, floor tiling and wall-cladding in interior and exterior applications.
Particularly suited to the kitchen environment due to its high durability and resistance to wear and tear, MDi is highly scratch resistant and a non-porous surface which means the build-up of bacteria or mould is prevented, and food can be placed in direct contact with it.
Hot cooking utensils such as frying pans or saucepans can be rested on the surface without damage due to its heat resistance, while knocks and impacts by everyday objects or utensils will have no bearing on MDi. Importantly, no extra care or special products are needed to clean the surface. Spills of juice, drinks and food will not stain the worktop and can be removed with water or mild cleaning products leaving the family free to relax and enjoy their space together without stress.
