CRL Quartz Low Silica
Low silica surfaces are becoming more and more popular due to the fact that they address the health concerns related to silica dust exposure during the fabrication process. CRL Stone is committed to the health and safety of its staff and industry colleagues, and in response has introduced a range of Low Silica quartz, featuring some of our best-selling products. CRL Quartz low silica worktops contain less than 30% crystalline silica while providing the same great benefits as standard CRL Quartz.
CRL Quartz is scratch, heat and stain resistant and never needs to be sealed unlike some natural stones. Requiring minimum maintenance to keep it looking as good as new, the non-porous surface makes cleaning simple, with soap and water or a mild detergent is all that is needed. Low Silica Quartz is available in a variety of finishes and in thicknesses of 20mm and 30mm, offered in large format slabs, allowing for greater consistency in design over large spaces such as kitchen worktops.

What is silica?
Silica is a natural substance found in most rocks, sand and clay and in products such as bricks and concrete. These materials create dust when they are cut and sanded during the fabrication process. Some of this dust may be fine enough to breathe deeply into the lungs and cause harm to health. The fine dust is called respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and is too fine to see with normal lighting.
“In its solid form engineered stone does not have hazardous properties. It is the dust that is generated during fabrication that has the potential to cause harm if inhaled.”
